Organizational Principles

Inclusion and Opportunity: We strive to ensure children and youth from all economic, cultural and social backgrounds have access to resources, supports, mentors and opportunities that will enable them to overcome barriers and achieve their positive potential in life.

Respect and Belonging: We work with others to provide safe, supportive environments where every child is listened to, treated with respect and valued in an environment of inclusion and acceptance. Our staff and volunteers model honesty, fair play, strength-based approaches, cooperation and respect for self and others.

Empowerment:  We believe all young people can grow into responsible, contributing and self-reliant members of society. Children and youth are at the centre of everything we do. Through adventure, play and discovery, we encourage and empower them to develop healthy lifestyles, a lifelong passion for learning, life skills, leadership and a sense of social responsibility.

Collaboration:  We work with families and groups in each community, in partnership with volunteers and organizations in the public, nonprofit and private sectors, to create healthy community solutions.  As a community partner we provide programs designed for impactful service so that children and youth get what they need for optimal development.

Advocacy:  We speak out on with and on behalf of children, youth and families to enhance their lives and enable their voices and ideas to be heard. We support families and communities to advocate for the supports and services they require.

Client Centered:  Clients are our first priority. We exist to serve children, and we do this through a variety of services and programs. Our staff, volunteers and community partners are committed to this client-centred approach.

Strength-based:  We assist children and families, and our staff and volunteers, to identify and build on their strengths. We embed a strength-based philosophy in all our work.

Efficiency and Effectiveness:  We place a priority on both efficiency and effectiveness in all our work.

Welcoming Community Diversity:  We strive to reach out and welcome every child, family, volunteer, staff person and partner so that we may support, strengthen, benefit from and contribute to the richness and complexity of the communities we serve.
