Putting Our Children First

Jul 18, 2017

With our annual Golf Tournament just a month away, we have been reflecting on the impact our sponsors, donors, and golfers have made on the children in our community. Our focus has always been ensuring that all children have the tools they need to succeed, to receive a good education, to develop positive friendships, and to ensure they are healthy and active.  But we can’t do it alone.

The last two years have been a challenging time in our economy, not just for us, but for the sponsors and donors who make our golf tournament possible.  As a result, companies, organizations, and individuals alike have all been forced to change our spending habits.  In the midst of it all, it can be easy to overlook the fact that those who were vulnerable before the downturn are struggling even more now. This is the reality for many of the families that we serve. But our Golf Sponsors have not overlooked our families. Even though many of them are still recovering from the downturn, their dedication to our children and youth has not wavered.

It’s in this spirit that we renamed our annual golf tournament fundraiser the “Children First Golf Classic.” It’s a testament to our sponsors and donors who continue to put the needs of children before their own. That’s what makes a community grow. That’s what makes us proud to call Alberta our home.

It’s the financial support that we received through our golf tournament, our other signature fundraisers and our year round funders and donors that allowed us to serve 5300 children and youth, support over 3,000 volunteers, and serve 65,000 snacks and meals in 2016. Despite all the challenges that our supporters have faced in the last two years, they continue to step up to ensure our children have the supports and tools they need to be successful.
