We are so fortunate to receive donations of tickets to events around Edmonton for our kids, families, and volunteers. They come from a multitude of individuals and companies and they can be a fun night out for Big-Little match or an opportunity for a parent to spoil their child. The other day, we heard from a Mom about the amazing experience she and her son had at the Oilers VS Devils game on November 21 (tickets to which were donated by Dentons Canada LLP). Below is the note we received from her.

I have always been told that fate works in mysterious ways, and this was one of those times. My son is a Little with Big Brothers Big Sisters and is lucky to be part of a wonderful organization. Recently he has had a very tough couple months, and has actually been put on a medical watch as he cannot eat due to the stress he is experiencing. I have not seen him smile for a very long time. I was fortunate enough to get these tickets and when I told him we were going he was still not as excited as I expected, as he is a diehard Oilers fan.

first smileWell that all changed this night. When he realized where we were sitting he could not believe it was happening; as a single mother, I would never be able to provide the opportunity to go to a game let alone the experience we received that night. When the players came out I saw a smile that I have been craving to see for a very long time. Then the words, “ mom, I am hungry can I have a hot dog” came out of his tiny mouth. Well, I do not think I have been happier to feed my son a hot dog. He ate that hot dog while smiling the whole night.

Since that night he has been much better. Every time he gets to tell the story of that game he smiles and I could not be happier. This was his saving grace and I will forever be thankful, one special night for a little boy changed everything.  People may not believe in angels but I do and feel that they were watching over us. This is why I speak of fate rather than religious figures. So for the fates working in our favor that night.  Thank you from the bottom of this mothers heart!

Ever so grateful,

Trinity and Jake
