Agency Volunteers

Usually BGCBigs is looking for volunteers, staring in September, to work directly with kids, but not in this case. Instead, we are looking for volunteers who prefer a behind the scenes role that involves supporting food security in our community. We need volunteers who want to support our Food Bank depots located at select BGCBigs Club Sites for a few short hours each week.

Overview: Volunteers would be responsible for welcoming and directing food bank deliveries, reviewing delivery sheets to ensure all food hampers are accounted for. In addition, Volunteers would greet all clients with a friendly welcome and direct them in picking up their allocated hampers. Food Bank depots require volunteers to be available during the day for a few short hours and follow processes related to confirming clients using identification and cross referencing order lists. Volunteers will receive additional training related to the Food Bank depot processes and an on site orientation.

Who are you helping? You are helping over 700 families (and subsequently many of our kids) who access Food Bank hampers as a means of food security.

Eligible Volunteers Are: Anyone over the age of 18 who is comfortable lifting 15 to 30lbs and who is available at least one of the following days for a full shift:

Mondays: 12:30-2:00 PM

Fridays: 12:30-2:00 PM

Minimum Commitment: We are looking for a regular commitment of at least one consistent shift per week (same day and same time) for a year.
