Give the Gift of Time – We Need Volunteers
Dec 1, 2021
Young people in your community need your time and attention.
The last 21 months have affected each of us in different ways. Our mental health was challenged. Many of us had family and friends who were affected by COVID either indirectly or directly. It was sometimes difficult to find the good news stories in all of it.
Over the past year, our team at BGCBigs has seen first-hand the resiliency of our children and youth and their families. They have come to our clubs with bright smiles, looking forward to seeing their peers and our staff. We have heard stories of Big Brother and Big Sister matches that continued to grow their relationships despite having to move to virtual when needed. We’ve seen the commitment and dedication of thousands of caring citizens in our community step up to support our agency financially and through their time and knowledge.
“I joined this agency at the age of 9 years old. As a former Little Sister, this agency has shaped the person that I am today. Having a mentor who cared about me, wanted to see me succeed, and did everything they could to make that happen helped instill confidence in me that I take with me everywhere.
I was also fortunate enough to be a Big Sister myself and was matched with a little girl who was FIERCE. Though she faced her own health challenges, we LOVED spending time together seeing movies, walking around Chapters, and eating at Boston Pizza. Being her Big Sister was an experience that made me a better friend, sister and new mother. For a couple hours a week, I got much more out of the relationship than I ever put in.”
-Danisha Bhaloo-Shivji, former Little Sister and Mentor
This year, we are not asking you for a donation, but rather, the gift of your time. For as little as a few hours a week, YOU can make a difference in the life of a child. We have hundreds of children on our wait list who need a friend, a role model, and someone who cares about them.
Mentors are urgently needed for the following programs:
Community-Based Mentoring (our Traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters Program), Virtual Tutoring, In-School Mentoring, Youth in Care Mentoring (for young people involved in government care), and our NEW PRISM mentoring program (supporting 2SLGBTQ+ young people)!
