100 Post-Secondary Students Can Earn $1,000 Bursary through New Mentoring Pilot Project

Students Mentoring Students Bursary (SMSB) is an exciting pilot project (in collaboration with Volunteer Alberta) that provides valuable resume-building experience and skills, PLUS a $1,000 bursary to 100 post-secondary students in Edmonton and Area.

The reality is, that many volunteers are facing more barriers such as lack of transportation, less available free time and less available income to invest in being a volunteer. BGCBigs and Volunteer Alberta want to help remove some of these barriers through this new pilot project designed specifically for Alberta post-secondary students who are looking for volunteer opportunities.

SMSB is currently accepting applications and is open to 100 post-secondary students who are currently enrolled at an Alberta post-secondary school. The deadline to apply is September 11, 2023, at Midnight MST.

Successful applicants will be a mentor to two (2) young people each from October 2023 through April 2024. Upon successful completion of the program, post-secondary students will be awarded a $1,000 bursary in addition to earning valuable resume-building assets such as letters of reference, strength-based training and experience working with children and in a classroom.
