Canadian Western Bank (CWB) is in its fifth year of supporting Boys & Girls Club Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area (BGCBigs) through its Greater Interest GIC Campaign. Since 2011, CWB has graciously donated over $500,000 to BGCBigs. CWB makes a corporate donation (1/8%) for every client dollar invested and the donations go to the local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency where the deposit was made; CWB supports 20 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across Canada with this campaign.
“This product is unique to CWB, and we’re proud to offer it to our clients,” says Angela Saveraux, CWB’s manager of public relations and community investment. “I’ve been privileged to see first-hand the tremendous impact of this on local kids. The value of mentorship for both the mentor and the child is very apparent, and we’re thrilled to play a small role in facilitating this process in the communities where we operate.”
The support doesn’t stop with The Greater Interest GIC as many Edmonton-based CWB employees volunteer their time with us at BGCBigs’s annual Golf Tournament and Lobster Lovers. CWB encourages employees to give back through their company volunteer grant program that offers $300 for a staff member’s charity of choice after he or she volunteers 30 hours or more in a year. “Many of our employees choose to direct their donation to BGCBigs,” Saveraux says.
From September 1 to October 29, CWB is offering The Greater Interest GIC in support of BGCBigs’s youth mentorship programs and will make a corporate donation for every dollar invested to help. Visit www.greaterinterest.ca for more information about the campaign and how to invest in a child’s future and yours at the same time.
“Canadian Western Bank is an amazingly generous organization with a clear commitment to improving the lives of kids and families,” says Liz O’Neill, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton. “Not only are they financially providing for our kids, their staff and leadership proves every day, that they really understand the impact of our work and the importance of taking care of each other in order that our communities will be strong and healthy in the future.
Chris Fowler, President & CEO of Canadian Western Bank says “as an organization, Canadian Western Bank believes in giving back to the communities that our employees and clients call home. Youth are our future, and we recognize their need to grow and flourish in a safe, nurturing environment. BGCBigs ensures that this type of environment is accessible to Edmonton and area youth.”
“Research has shown that mentoring has a significant ability to change the lives of young people. By being paired with a positive role model that teaches them important life skills and supports their learning and growth, these kids will become smart, socially-aware members of our community, and that is something that Canadian Western Bank is proud to support.”
“Canadian Western Bank is really proud of The Greater Interest GIC campaign. It started a number of years ago as an innovative idea from one of our employees, and has since grown to become a part of our corporate culture. Our employees are highly engaged in our partnerships with local Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies, and they look forward to showing their support each year. In fact, some of our employees regularly commit their time as volunteer mentors.”
