BGC Canada Youth of the Year (YOY)

Youth of the Year or YOY is a national initiative celebrating youth leadership and achievement at BGC Clubs across Canada. YOY aims to foster strong BGC ambassadors and build capacity for Clubs to support more youth leaders in their communities. YOY will award a successful applicant with $10,000.

Eligibility: YOY Role The Youth of the Year role requires a 1.5-year commitment. Must be an active Club member

Current Club staff and/or volunteers who have previously spent time as a Club member are eligible to apply as well. Aged 15 - 21 years old (as of year old application). Demonstrated leadership qualities such as; Embodiment of BGC values, positive impact on those around them, volunteerism (within Club or community), personal growth/demonstrated improvement. Must have a willingness to travel to various BGC Canada events, ability to participate in virtual and/or in-person leadership training and Celebration Event. Willingness to commit to the 1.5-year role as a youth ambassador and spokesperson for the BGC movement on a local, regional, and national level.

BGC Canada Best Buy Grade 10 Scholarships

Successful applicants receive $4,000, and a $750 Best Buy Gift Card for a laptop.

Eligibility: Must be a current or former BGC member for minimum of 1 year, in Gr. 10 at time of application, have a nomination form completed by staff. Successful applicants will provide; completed application, Club nomination form, education/career goal statement, proof of registration at a recognized post-secondary school, valid Social Insurance Number by grade 12. Factors taken into consideration; Other community volunteer activities, Letter of recommendation and education/career goal statement, Club Nomination Form, Full completion of application and all supporting documents.

Edmonton Community Foundation and Africa Centre The Edmonton Refugee & Emerging Community (EREC)

Award amount: between $1,000 and $5,000.

The Edmonton Refugee & Emerging Community (EREC) scholarship fund was established at Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) to enhance the quality of life for refugees and members of Emerging Communities living in the greater Edmonton area.

Eligibility: Must be  a resident of the greater Edmonton area, and attending a school in the greater Edmonton area, or intending to attend a school in the greater Edmonton. Must be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a recognized undergraduate, professional, or applied degree, a diploma, or certificate. Academic upgrading, college preparation, after degrees, graduate programs, and international students are ineligible. Must provide evidence of positive community involvement and volunteerism. Must demonstrate commitment to studies, maturity, and likelihood of their program leading to improved employment opportunities. Must be experiencing financial need.

Edmonton Community Foundation Hilltop Awards and Scholarships

Award amount: between $1,000 and $5,000.

(previously known as ECF Awards and Bursaries) was launched in 2009 to help students from Edmonton and/or Northern Alberta who have a history of community involvement with the costs of post-secondary education.

Eligibility: Financial need: Funding your studies is a challenge due to your financial situation.

Community involvement: You are involved in your community in a role with responsibilities (as a volunteer, an artist, on a sports team, etc.). You want to apply what you learn towards working in and improving the greater Edmonton area or northern Alberta.  To apply must have Reference letters: from someone (not a family member) who can speak to your community involvement and why you should get an award. One reference letter is required to apply, but applicants can submit an additional letter if available (maximum two letters).Statement of Grades from your most recent studies: Don’t worry, high grades are not part of the criteria. We just want to see that you have potential to be successful in your planned studies. Official transcripts are not required. A PDF or scan from a school website is acceptable. For high school grades, you can get unofficial grades from mypass.alberta.ca
