Strike Group Equity Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Program
Award amount: $2000 per scholarship
For those within the Trades field, the Strike Group EDI Scholarship Program is part of a broader commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in our organization. We know that we must increase our focus on building the future talent pipeline and find more ways to support underrepresented populations in our industry. This scholarship program is part of our commitment to helping break through barriers and creating a positive impact on the community at large. We believe everyone has a right to education, and we are committed to providing people in historically underrepresented groups with financial aid.
The program includes 5 different scholarships: Canadian Immigration Scholarship, Indigenous Scholarship, LGBTQ2S+ Scholarship, Western Canada Scholarship, Women in Energy Scholarship
Eligibility: To be eligible for the EDI scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria: Be enrolled in full time post-secondary that is specific to the Energy and/or Construction industry, or a trades program in Western Canada and maintain satisfactory academic standing throughout the program; Applicants must meet the verification requirements outlined in the individual scholarships; Have a plan of achieving education and career goals; Committed to updating Strike on academic progress throughout duration of their program; and Must currently live in Western Canada (ie. British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba).
Belcourt Brosseau Metis Awards (BBMAs)
Award Amount: Between $1000 and $10,000
Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards (BBMAs) support Métis Albertans with scholarships up to $10,000 each year for post-secondary education. The BBMAs were established in 2001 by the directors of the Canative Housing Corporation, Orval Belcourt, Dr. Herb Belcourt, and Georges Brosseau QC. Their vision was to help Métis Albertans realize self-sufficiency through post-secondary education and skills development. Over the past twenty years the Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards have provided more than $10.5 million to approximately 2,600 Métis students studying at institutions across Alberta. These awards are one of the largest non-governmental sources of student funding for Métis students in Canada.
Eligibility:Membership with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government or a Métis Settlement (Note: if you are in process of receiving citizenship or membership you will need to upload a letter saying you have applied for it). Alberta Residence and Canadian Citizenship. Must be studying in an eligible program at an eligible post-secondary institution.
Edmonton Community Foundation and Africa Centre The Edmonton Refugee & Emerging Community (EREC)
Award amount: between $1,000 and $5,000.
The Edmonton Refugee & Emerging Community (EREC) scholarship fund was established at Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) to enhance the quality of life for refugees and members of Emerging Communities living in the greater Edmonton area.
Eligibility: Must be a resident of the greater Edmonton area, and attending a school in the greater Edmonton area, or intending to attend a school in the greater Edmonton. Must be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a recognized undergraduate, professional, or applied degree, a diploma, or certificate. Academic upgrading, college preparation, after degrees, graduate programs, and international students are ineligible. Must provide evidence of positive community involvement and volunteerism. Must demonstrate commitment to studies, maturity, and likelihood of their program leading to improved employment opportunities. Must be experiencing financial need.
Edmonton Community Foundation Hilltop Awards and Scholarships
Award amount: between $1,000 and $5,000.
(previously known as ECF Awards and Bursaries) was launched in 2009 to help students from Edmonton and/or Northern Alberta who have a history of community involvement with the costs of post-secondary education.
Eligibility: Financial need: Funding your studies is a challenge due to your financial situation.
Community involvement: You are involved in your community in a role with responsibilities (as a volunteer, an artist, on a sports team, etc.). You want to apply what you learn towards working in and improving the greater Edmonton area or northern Alberta. To apply must have Reference letters: from someone (not a family member) who can speak to your community involvement and why you should get an award. One reference letter is required to apply, but applicants can submit an additional letter if available (maximum two letters).Statement of Grades from your most recent studies: Don’t worry, high grades are not part of the criteria. We just want to see that you have potential to be successful in your planned studies. Official transcripts are not required. A PDF or scan from a school website is acceptable. For high school grades, you can get unofficial grades from mypass.alberta.ca
