One thing that hasn’t changed over the past few years is that youth are still hungry to secure jobs, attend post-secondary and pursue career opportunities. As BGCBigs has transitioned back to in-person programming over the past year, we’ve heard youth in our community continue to express their interest and desire to work and learn more about careers that interest them. This is why we’re so grateful for the RBC and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s Big Possibilities program; through this program we’re able to support our youth to find jobs and prepare for the next steps in their education and future careers.

Over the past year we’ve provided this support to more than 100 youth in the form of resume building, support applying for jobs, interview prep, job shadowing, entrepreneurship programs and developing budgeting and money management skills. Armed with these new skills and access to resources our youth are more confident and feel more prepared as they interview for jobs and enter the workforce. In March 2023, BGCBigs hosted our annual Teen Takeover event. This unique event brings youth face-to-face with multiple career and job mentors, as well as the chance to hear from a panel of youth who shared their experience of how they discovered their career path, who supported them on their journey and what their next steps will be.

Our partners are crucial to the success of the Youth Employment Program. Thanks to support from partners like RBC, we’re able to continue supporting the future aspirations and endeavors of youth in our community—while providing them the tangible building blocks necessary to achieve their goals.
