School-based Mentoring

In-School Mentoring
Our In-School Mentoring (ISM) Program provides students with a role model and friend to talk to, all from the familiar comfort and convenience of their school.
How it works:
- Students in grades 1-12 will be matched with a like-minded mentor.
- Students will visit with their mentor during the school year for 1 hour per week between the hours of 8:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
- Each visit follows the 20-20-20 model: 20 minutes of getting to know each other, 20 minutes of academic support, and 20 minutes of free activity time (student’s choice).
- ISM programs are offered in partnership with select schools in Edmonton, St. Albert, Strathcona County, and Parkland County.
- Each match is supported by a BGCBigs Mentoring Facilitator. Mentoring Facilitators are available to answer any questions and to help matches achieve their goals together.
Minimum Commitment: 1 hour per week throughout the school year
Availability: We run ISM programs at partnered schools in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert and Parkland County.
When & Where: At the same time each week during the school day at school

This is when we find your child a volunteer who is going to be a good fit. Once a volunteer has been selected, a match engagement meeting will occur at your child’s school with introduction of the volunteer to your child and your child’s teacher.
