BIG Summer

A summer-sized start to something BIGGER.

BIG Summer is a pilot mentoring program designed to give volunteers a short-term opportunity to make BIG impact.

Over four fun-filled months, you and your mentee will connect during the summer — the most exciting season to explore, learn and grow together.

Your Commitment

  • 10-12 visits with your mentee from May through the end of August.
  • Participate in a variety of no/low-cost activities of your and your mentee's choosing.
  • Fill out the BIG Summer Passport, checking off activities, exploring the city and collecting memories along the way.
  • Be willing to show up, be yourself and be a friend.

BIG Summer gives volunteers a chance to try mentoring in a light, seasonal way.  

It’s perfect for people who want to make a difference but can’t commit year-round. It’s mentorship with a splash of summer energy.

Mentors and mentees will receive the BIG Summer Passport filled with fun, ready-to-use activity ideas that it easy to plan engaging experiences while still leaving plenty of room for creativity.  

It’s the perfect way to experience what mentoring is all about — all in one unforgettable summer.

Enrollment Process

All successful applicants will be required to:

  1. Complete the BGCBigs online application form
  2. Provide three (3) references
  3. Complete a Police Information Check
  4. Complete a Child & Youth Intervention Record Check
  5. Complete a pre-screen and interview (2.5 hrs)
