GAME CHANGERS is a new pilot program, designed specifically for male volunteers, children and youth!
Did you know...
There are currently more than 800 children and youth on our waitlist who are waiting to be matched with a volunteer mentor and more than half of them are boys.
So, we decided it was time to change the game. We designed this program to close the gap in programs and services available to our families who have boys currently on our waitlist and have a particular need, want, or desire for a positive male role model in their lives
This innovative new program makes being a volunteer mentor easy with a simple site-based program format and is perfect for anyone looking to give back to their community while having fun!
Your commitment
Perks of the program
- You will be matched to a like-minded mentee (ages 8 - 13).
- You will meet with your mentee in a group setting once per week for two (2) hours.
- Choose one (1) of two (2) programs:
- Tuesdays at Caernarvon Elementary School (14820-118 Street) from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
- Thursday at BGCBigs’ West Club
(16030-104 Avenue) from 6:00 P.M.to 8:00 P.M.
- Short-term commitment. Programs will run for the duration of the school year.
- No vehicle needed. Both sites are located near public transit centres.
- You don't need specialized skills or education. Just show up ready to play sports, board games or participate in hands-on projects with your mentee.
Enrollment Process
- Complete the BGCBigs online application form
- Provide three (3) references
- Complete a Police Information Check
- Complete a Child & Youth Intervention Record Check
- Complete a pre-screen and interview (2.5 hrs)
- Virtual strength-based training to help you succeed with your mentee
