School-based Mentoring

In-School Mentoring

Our In-School Mentoring (ISM) Program provides students with a role model and friend to talk to—all from the familiar comfort and convenience of their school.

How it works:

  • Students in Grades 1-12 will be matched with a like-minded mentor.
  • Students will visit with their mentor during the school year for 1 hour per week between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and 3:00 P.M.
  • Each visit follows the 20-20-20 model: 20 minutes of getting to know each other, 20 minutes of academic support, and 20 minutes of free activity time (student’s choice).
  • ISM programs are offered in partnership with select schools in Edmonton, St. Albert, Strathcona County and Parkland County.
  • Each match is supported by a BGCBigs Mentoring Facilitator. Mentoring Facilitators are available to answer any questions and to help matches achieve their goals together.

Minimum Commitment: 1 hour per week throughout the school year

Availability: We run ISM programs at partnered schools in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert and Parkland County.

When & Where: At the same time each week during the school day at school

Please note: Your child must attend one of the schools listed on the application form to participate in this program.

    Matching

We'll match your child to a like-minded volunteer who is available to visit your child at least once per week, for 1 hour.

When a volunteer has been selected, a match engagement meeting will occur at your child’s school to make introductions of the volunteer to your child and your child’s teacher.
