About Us

Our Vision

All young people discover and achieve their full potential.

Our Mission

To provide safe supportive spaces and positive mentoring relationships where young people experience new opportunities and develop confidence and skills for life.

Core Values

Belonging

We are a safe, accepting, inclusive organization in which differences are valued in all aspects of service delivery and organizational practices.

Respect

We ensure that everyone – children, youth, families, volunteers, staff and partners are heard, valued, and treated fairly.

Encouragement & Support

We encourage and support children, youth, and families in learning and growing to achieve their dreams.

Working Together

We work together with young people, families, volunteers, communities, and the government to promote healthy and safe environments for children and youth.

Speaking Out

The voices of children, youth and families are essential to shaping our goals, priorities, and work. We encourage them to speak out and support their voices as needed.

Equity & Stewardship

We believe in diligent and equitable stewardship of community resources.

Our History

In 2011, we officially became known as BGCBigs by formally joining Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Boys & Girls Clubs of Edmonton, combining the child and youth serving services of each organication under one brand (legal status granted on July 1, 2011, by the Canada Revenue Agency and the Government of Alberta).

At the time, an organizational restructure of this magnitude was largely uncharted territory, both for the local organizations themselves and the national affiliates (BGC Canada, formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada) and the broader non-profit sector.

As BGCBigs assumed its new legal identity, its board, staff, volunteers and community partners continued the work of maintaining service to children and families. With this evolution and the value we saw in collaborative partnerships, we were able to build a new organization that would more effectively and efficiently serve even more children, youth and families than ever before.

Anti-Racism Statement

BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area (BGCBigs) is dedicated to supporting thousands of children, youth, families, staff and volunteers across our diverse communities.

We know that racism—systemic, societal and individual—has harmed many of the people within our community, past and present. Racism cannot and will not be tolerated in any form.

Our core values guide us to create inclusive spaces where everyone feels seen and supported. At BGCBigs, we take responsibility to challenge inequities, foster understanding and help build a just society.

At BGCBigs, every child, youth, family, staff member and volunteer deserves the right to thrive without fear of racism.

We are committed to the ongoing (and sometimes difficult) conversations and actions required to be an active part of the solution.
