Celebrating Volunteers Who Make A Difference

As we continue through 2026, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the volunteers who show up for young people in our community every day. Whether in Clubs, schools, or community-based matches, your time, care, and commitment create meaningful change.

This was especially evident at our Volunteer Appreciation Open House on April 14, where we welcomed over 40 volunteers to celebrate their incredible contributions.

Bringing Volunteers Together Through Appreciation

Our Open House was an opportunity to bring volunteers together, show our gratitude, and reflect on the impact they have on the lives of children and youth. The space was filled with connection, laughter, and gratitude. Volunteers explored an Impact Room, highlighting stories and outcomes from across our programs, and enjoyed fun and interactive elements throughout the event—including a caricature artist, button-making station, donut wall, entertainment from our OST school Delton and Eastglen school group, and a charcuterie board.

A Gratitude Wall allowed everyone to share messages of appreciation, while a bingo activity at the entrance added a fun and engaging touch to kick off the event. To mark this year’s theme, “Ignite Volunteerism,” volunteers left with a small token of appreciation—a candle and sticker—symbolizing the light they bring into our community.

The Power of Volunteering

Volunteering doesn’t require perfection; it requires presence. Across BGCBigs programs, volunteers help create safe, supportive environments where young people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Through consistent connection, volunteers support youth in building confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging that lasts far beyond their time in programs.

Whether supporting youth one-on-one, helping facilitate Club activities, tutoring, or assisting with events, every volunteer plays a role in creating positive experiences for young people.

Why More Mentors Are Needed in 2026

Each year, more young people are waiting to be connected with supportive adults and community programs. As our reach continues to grow, so does the need for volunteers across all areas of our organization.

There are many ways to get involved, including volunteering with our Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs, PRISM (supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth), Club programs, school-based mentoring, tutoring programs, and initiatives like Hockey Heroes.

No matter the role, every volunteer contributes to building stronger, more connected communities.
